FENIX AIRBUS

Good afternoon, i'm new to this group but, as I see there are lots of experience sim pilots on here, I thought I'd ask a question about the Fenix airbus family and the landing rates.  I know Fenix are about to release a big update, and one of their comments was that the flare isn't as good as it should be.  I cant testify to that as my landings are either heavy or floaty.  I've set up the sensitivity to -20 on my TCA sidestick, I begin the flare at 30 and retard throttles at 20.  Unfortunately it's always hit and miss on landing rate.  Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.. Thanks in advance.

It's a strange thing with the Fenix.  Some pilots seems to have mastered the art of a reasonable landing rate say under 200fpm whilst others, me included. seem to pretty much be on the upper end of things between 200 and 500fpm.  Bear in mind that I have been simming for over 40 years and Airbus flying for over 20 years including many years on P3D with FSLabs.  So, like you, I'm looking forward to the big Fenix update to see if the advertised improvements actually make me a better pilot! smiley

I find especially in the Fenix, if you keep your speed up ie 5 to 8 knotts above your approach speed then flare and retard it manages to perform consistantly with landing rates, however im no master this is only what seems to work for me.

That said they can be all over the place for sure.

Many Thanks,

Mark.

Hello Guys, new to the forum. Thank you to have me in the VA wink

In my opinion, the most important part of the job is not the soft landing. It is to land in the aiming spot and not to float or bounce.

In my opinion :

  • < 120 ft/min: very smooth, sometimes too much ( and unsafe) if the runway is short or slippery.

  • 120–300 ft/min: considered comfortable and safe.

  • 300–480 ft/min: perfectly acceptable, standard for airline operations.

  • > 480 ft/min: a bit firm, but may be intentional (e.g., contaminated runway).

not an expert tho, what are your thoughts about it ? I am happy to land in the touchdown zone anywhere less then 300ft/min wink

I agree entirely.  There's too much emphasis on 'soft' landings in general.  Any landing rate is good if it's in the landing zone, doesn't involve damage to the aircraft or injury to passengers or crew followed by an interview with a Training Captain without tea and biscuits! laugh

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing
